SE Ranking review verdict: should you buy it?
SE Ranking is a strong all-in-one SEO platform for freelancers, small agencies and in-house teams who want rank tracking, site audits, competitor research and AI search visibility in one subscription. It is not the right choice if deep backlink data is your core workflow, because its claimed link index is far smaller than Ahrefs’ or Semrush’s.
Best for: freelancers and small agencies that live in rank tracking, audits and client reporting, and want AI search tracking without a second subscription.
Not for: link builders and digital PR teams who spend most of the day inside a backlink index, or enterprises that need custom data pipelines beyond the standard API tiers.
Price: Core at £95.00 a month, Growth at £209.00 a month, both roughly 20% cheaper on annual billing (prices shown on seranking.com as of July 2026; SE Ranking localises pricing by region).
Trial: 14 days free, no credit card required.
What is SE Ranking and who is it for?
SE Ranking is a subscription SEO platform that combines rank tracking, technical site audits, backlink analysis, competitor research, local SEO tools, a content module and AI search visibility tracking in one interface. It sits in the mid-market: more complete than single-purpose trackers, cheaper at entry than the enterprise suites, and aimed squarely at agencies and small marketing teams.
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| What is it? | All-in-one SEO platform: rankings, audits, backlinks, competitors, local, content, AI visibility |
| Standout strength | Daily rank tracking plus AI search tracking included on both self-serve plans |
| Weakest area | Backlink index is much smaller than Ahrefs’ or Semrush’s by claimed size |
| Price from | £95.00 a month (Core, monthly billing, as of July 2026) |
| Free trial | 14 days, no credit card |
| Best fit | Freelancers, small agencies, budget-conscious in-house teams |
We are Luckywebs, a London-based UK SEO and web agency. Our client work is rank tracking, technical audits and monthly reporting for trades, professional services and e-commerce businesses, so we judge a platform like SE Ranking against exactly those jobs rather than against a feature checklist.
How much does SE Ranking cost in 2026?
SE Ranking sells two self-serve plans, Core and Growth, plus a custom Enterprise tier. As of July 2026, seranking.com listed Core at £95.00 a month and Growth at £209.00 a month, with a 20% discount on annual billing. Pricing is localised, so you may see your own currency; US sources list the same plans at $129 (about £95) and $279 (about £205) monthly.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Key limits (as of July 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | £95.00 | £76.00 | 10 projects, 1 manager seat, 2,000 keywords tracked daily, 250,000 pages audited a month, 100 AI prompts a day, 25,000 API credits |
| Growth | £209.00 | £167.20 | 30 projects, 3 manager seats, 5,000 keywords tracked daily, 2,000,000 pages audited a month, 250 AI prompts a day, 100,000 API credits |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom limits, contact sales |
Growth also adds all-time historical data, guest links for collaboration and page change monitoring. Both plans carry a 14-day free trial with no card, and SE Ranking offers free assisted migration on annual subscriptions.
What add-ons will you actually need?
Add-ons matter here, because several agency essentials sit outside the headline price. As of July 2026 the pricing page listed three:
| Add-on | Price (July 2026) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Agency Pack | £49.00 a month, annual billing only | White label reporting, unlimited scheduled reports |
| AI Search | £69.00 a month (£55.20 on annual) | Extends AI tracking to 200 to 1,000 prompts depending on plan |
| API | £35.00 a month, annual billing | Higher API credit tiers |
One structural note: until late 2025 SE Ranking sold Essential, Pro and Business plans. Those were replaced by Core and Growth, so older reviews quoting Essential at $65 a month describe a pricing structure that no longer exists. Independent pricing write-ups note the restructure raised the effective entry price, which is worth knowing before you compare quotes.
How good is SE Ranking’s rank tracker?
SE Ranking’s rank tracker is the heart of the platform and the module agencies will use daily. It tracks positions in Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, checks the top 100 results, updates daily, and separates desktop from mobile. Location targeting goes down to city level across 190+ countries, which matters for local service businesses.
The tracker also monitors 35+ Google SERP features, including AI Overviews, featured snippets and knowledge panels, and flags which ones your site has earned. For a UK agency reporting to clients who ask “why did traffic move?”, seeing SERP feature changes alongside position changes answers half the question before you open Search Console.
Keyword allowances are the practical constraint. Core tracks 2,000 keywords daily across 10 projects; Growth lifts that to 5,000 across 30. For a small agency running 8 to 10 retainers at 100 to 200 keywords each, Core fits with headroom. Past that, budget for Growth.
What does SE Ranking’s site audit check?
SE Ranking’s site audit crawls your site against 115+ checks across 13 categories, covering security, crawling and indexing, redirects, sitemaps, meta tags, content, links, JavaScript, CSS, mobile and speed. It supports JavaScript rendering, and SE Ranking claims it can crawl 1,000 pages in under two minutes.
Monthly crawl budgets are generous at this price: 250,000 pages a month on Core and 2 million on Growth (July 2026 limits). Each crawl produces a health score and a healthy-versus-problem-pages ratio, which is a genuinely useful before-and-after number for client reporting.
Our own builds are static Astro sites, which give an audit tool little to flag by design. Where an audit tool earns its keep for us is on inherited sites: WordPress installs with plugin bloat, legacy redirects and stray parameters. A categorised issue list with priorities is exactly what you want on day one of a new retainer.
Can SE Ranking’s backlink checker replace Ahrefs?
SE Ranking’s backlink checker is competent but its index is the platform’s clearest limitation. SE Ranking’s own figures (July 2026) claim 2.7 trillion backlinks and 420 million domains indexed, with 6 billion pages crawled daily. Ahrefs and Semrush claim around 35 trillion and 43 trillion links respectively in current third party comparisons.
| Tool | Claimed backlinks indexed | Claimed domains indexed | Source of claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| SE Ranking | 2.7 trillion | 420 million | seranking.com, July 2026 |
| Ahrefs | ~35 trillion | ~500 million referring domains | Third party comparisons, 2026 |
| Semrush | ~43 trillion | ~390 million referring domains | Third party comparisons, 2026 |
These are all vendor-claimed numbers measured in different ways, so treat the table as scale, not precision. The practical read: SE Ranking will find the links that matter on most small business sites, and its Domain Trust, Page Trust and toxicity scoring cover everyday link review. If your service line is link building or digital PR, where finding every referring domain is the product, a dedicated index is still the safer buy.
How useful is SE Ranking’s competitive research?
SE Ranking’s competitive research module shows what any domain or URL ranks for in organic and paid search, who its real competitors are based on shared keywords, and what its paid ads look like. As of July 2026 SE Ranking states its keyword database spans 5.5 billion keywords across 188 geographic databases, with 2.2 billion domain profiles.
For UK work the relevant number is the UK database, which SE Ranking puts at 766 million keywords. In agency practice this module does two jobs: sizing up a prospect’s market before a pitch, and finding the keyword gaps between a client and the two or three domains actually beating them. Definition worth knowing: a keyword gap is the set of terms a competitor ranks for that your site does not, which is usually the fastest content brief you will ever write.
Can agencies white label SE Ranking reports?
SE Ranking supports white label reporting through its Agency Pack add-on, priced at £49.00 a month on annual billing as of July 2026. The pack covers white-labelled reporting and unlimited scheduled reports, so everything a client receives carries your branding rather than SE Ranking’s.
The catch is that white labelling is not in the base price and the add-on was listed as annual billing only as of July 2026. A freelancer sending two PDF reports a month may not care. An agency positioning the dashboard as part of its own service will treat the Agency Pack as a required line item, so add it to your cost comparison from the start.
How does SE Ranking handle local SEO?
SE Ranking’s local marketing tool covers the three jobs local campaigns run on: Google Business Profile management, local rank tracking and map visibility. It connects to Google Business Profile so you can manage business information and plan GBP posts from inside the platform (the dedicated post scheduler was still marked as coming soon in July 2026), and it tracks map rankings down to street level.
The grid rank tracker is the standout. A grid tracker checks your map rankings at multiple points across an area rather than one city-centre coordinate: SE Ranking tracks keywords on specific grid points down to street level, so you see how visibility changes across a whole service area. For trades and clinics whose rankings collapse two postcodes from their office, that grid view is the honest picture a single tracked location hides.
Does SE Ranking track AI search visibility?
SE Ranking includes an AI search toolkit that tracks how brands appear in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. It records when AI tools mention a brand even without linking to it, tracks competitors’ AI visibility, and keeps historical data so you can see direction of travel rather than one-off snapshots.
Definition first: generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the practice of improving how often and how favourably AI assistants cite your brand in their answers. Clients have started asking about it by name, and having AI mention data in the same platform as rank tracking keeps the conversation grounded in numbers.
Allowances are plan-based: Core includes 100 AI prompts a day and GEO research on 5 domains, Growth includes 250 prompts and 15 domains, and the AI Search add-on (£69.00 a month, or £55.20 on annual, July 2026) extends prompt limits further. Heavy AI tracking is therefore a real cost, not a free extra.
Is SE Ranking’s content tool any good?
SE Ranking’s content module bundles a Content Editor, an AI Writer and a Content Idea Finder. The Content Editor builds SEO briefs from live SERP analysis, suggesting word count, keywords, structure and media, then scores drafts as you write. The AI Writer generates outlines and copy in a range of tones, and the Idea Finder surfaces topics.
Two honest caveats. First, pricing: the content module was not listed with the main add-ons on the pricing page as of July 2026, so confirm how it is bundled with Core or Growth before you rely on it. Second, philosophy: we treat AI writers as drafting assistants, never as publish buttons. Brief-building from SERP data is the genuinely valuable half of this module; unedited AI copy is not something we would put on a client site.
Where does SE Ranking fall short?
SE Ranking’s weaknesses are real and worth naming plainly. No tool at this price does everything, and these are the four gaps we would flag to a client considering it:
- The backlink index is the smallest of the big names. By vendor-claimed figures, 2.7 trillion links against Ahrefs’ ~35 trillion and Semrush’s ~43 trillion. Fine for everyday link review, limiting for link-building specialists.
- The 2025 pricing restructure raised the entry price. The old Essential plan ($65, about £48, a month in USD sources) is gone; Core starts materially higher. Older reviews and old quotes will mislead you.
- Agency essentials are add-ons. White label reporting (Agency Pack, £49.00 a month, annual only), extended AI tracking and higher API tiers all sit outside the headline price. Cost the bundle, not the plan.
- Keyword and project caps are hard limits. 2,000 daily keywords and 10 projects on Core sounds like plenty until an agency onboards its eleventh retainer. Model your real client book against the caps before committing.
Which SE Ranking plan should you choose?
The right SE Ranking plan depends on how many projects you run and whether clients see the platform. Our shorthand: freelancers fit Core, agencies that report under their own brand need Growth plus the Agency Pack, and in-house teams should size against one site but many keywords.
For freelancers
Core on annual billing (£76.00 a month as of July 2026) covers 10 projects and 2,000 daily keywords, which supports a full freelance client book. Skip the Agency Pack until clients ask for branded dashboards; a clean exported report is usually enough at this stage.
For small agencies
Growth (£167.20 a month on annual) plus the Agency Pack (£49.00 a month) is the realistic bundle: 30 projects, 3 seats, and white-labelled reporting clients can log into. Roughly £216 a month for a platform that replaces separate rank tracking, audit and reporting subscriptions is a defensible line on a P&L.
For in-house teams
An in-house team on one domain rarely needs 30 projects, so Core usually fits, with the AI Search add-on if the brand is fighting for AI Overview and ChatGPT visibility. The API (£35.00 a month, annual) is worth it once ranking data needs to land in your own BI dashboards.
How do we evaluate SEO tools at Luckywebs?
Luckywebs is a UK SEO and web agency based in London, and we hold every tool we recommend to the same five tests we apply before anything touches a client retainer. Our founder Mo Rafi has 15 years of front-end development behind his technical SEO work and ran WordPress workshops at Google Campus London from 2012; Katy Mironenko leads SEO delivery and Robert Malnieks runs client strategy. Our clients are trades, legal and e-commerce businesses, and we hold a 4.7-star Google rating from 60 reviews.
The five tests:
- Accuracy against ground truth. Ranking and traffic data must reconcile with Google Search Console, not just look plausible.
- Fit to real workflows. A tool earns its subscription by removing steps from audits, tracking and reporting we already do, not by adding dashboards nobody opens.
- Client-readable output. Reports must make sense to a business owner, not just to us.
- Honest total cost. We price the bundle a working agency actually needs, add-ons included, per tracked keyword and per client.
- Verified claims only. Every figure in a review like this is checked against the vendor’s own pages or credible third parties, and dated. Where a claim needs first-hand evidence we have not yet published, we say so rather than invent it.
What else do people ask about SE Ranking?
These are the questions that come up most often when freelancers and agencies weigh up SE Ranking, answered with the July 2026 plans and prices used throughout this review.
Does SE Ranking have a free trial?
Yes. SE Ranking offers a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, on both Core and Growth (as of July 2026). That is long enough to connect a real project, run a full audit and watch a week of daily rank updates before paying.
Is SE Ranking cheaper than Semrush or Ahrefs?
Generally yes at entry level, which is its market position. Core was £95.00 a month (monthly billing) as of July 2026. Compare current prices directly on each vendor’s site though, because all three change plans regularly and SE Ranking itself restructured in late 2025.
Does SE Ranking track ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?
Yes. The AI search toolkit tracks brand visibility in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, including unlinked brand mentions and competitor comparisons, with historical data. Daily prompt limits apply per plan, extendable via the AI Search add-on.
Can I white label SE Ranking reports for clients?
Yes, via the Agency Pack add-on at £49.00 a month (annual billing only, as of July 2026). It covers white-labelled reporting and unlimited scheduled reports. It is not included in the base plans, so factor it into any agency cost comparison.
What happened to the Essential, Pro and Business plans?
SE Ranking retired them in late 2025 and replaced them with Core, Growth and a custom Enterprise tier. Reviews written before the change quote plans and prices that no longer exist, so check the date on anything you read, this page included.
How accurate is SE Ranking’s rank tracking?
It tracks the top 100 results daily, split by device and location, which is the right method. Accuracy is best judged against your own Search Console data over the trial; we recommend that reconciliation to every client evaluating any tracker, and we will publish our own comparison here once ready.
Does SE Ranking have an API?
Yes. Core includes 25,000 API credits and Growth 100,000 (July 2026), with an API add-on at £35.00 a month on annual billing for higher tiers. That covers pulling ranking and project data into your own dashboards and reporting.
Is SE Ranking good for local SEO?
Yes, and it is one of the platform’s stronger areas for service businesses. Google Business Profile management, GBP post planning and a map grid rank tracker that measures rankings at multiple points down to street level all sit inside the platform, so local visibility is measured across an area rather than at a single point.
Final word: is SE Ranking the right buy?
SE Ranking earns a place on the shortlist for any freelancer, small agency or in-house team that needs daily rank tracking, solid audits, local grids and AI search visibility in one subscription. Go elsewhere if backlink data is your core product. Go in with the add-ons costed if you are an agency. And use the 14-day trial against a real project, because your own data is the only benchmark that matters.
