Best SEO Software UK: Who Bills in Pounds and What It Really Costs
The best SEO software for a UK business is the platform that does the jobs you need and bills you in pounds, and as of late September 2026 three big names do: SE Ranking (Core £95 a month, or £76 billed annually), Ahrefs (Starter £23, Lite £99) and, more recently, Semrush (SEO plan £113, or £95.07 billed annually). Moz Pro, Ubersuggest, Mangools and SEO PowerSuite still bill in US dollars, so your bank sets the rate and may add a fee before VAT is considered. Below: why the billing currency matters, a UK cost table in pounds, and a pick for four kinds of UK business.

Why the billing currency matters for a UK buyer
This guide is part of our SEO tools hub and is narrower than our ranked list of the best SEO tools for small business: that page ranks seven tools against our testing criteria and builds a starter stack, while this post covers who bills UK buyers in sterling, who bills in dollars, and what VAT and exchange rates add.
Three things sit between a dollar sticker price and a UK bank statement. The exchange rate: every dollar figure here is converted at the Bank of England spot rate of 1.3220 US dollars to the pound on 24 September 2026, down from 1.3608 five weeks earlier, so every dollar-priced tool now costs a UK buyer more in pounds than our older posts suggest. The card fee: when a vendor bills in dollars, your bank converts the charge and may add a foreign transaction fee of up to about 3%, as of July 2026. And VAT: as of July 2026, Semrush showed prices excluding tax, UK consumers could see 20% VAT added at the checkout, and VAT-registered businesses could usually enter a valid VAT number. Semrush has since moved to sterling list prices without saying whether they include VAT, and nobody at Luckywebs has run a real UK checkout on them, so we will not guess.
Which SEO software bills in pounds, and which does not
As of late September 2026, three platforms show sterling prices to UK visitors: SE Ranking, which localises pricing by region, Ahrefs, and now Semrush. Semrush lists £113, £161, £242 and £444 a month, and those are not conversions of its July 2026 dollar prices at either Bank of England rate we have used. The SEO plan was $139 a month in July 2026, about £102 at 1.3608 and about £105 at 1.3220. Its sterling list price is £113.
Moz Pro, Ubersuggest, Mangools and SEO PowerSuite still bill in dollars, and Mangools’ prices load client-side, so we have never read one from its own page on either check. Our guide to the SEO tools worth paying for in 2026 covers what each category of tool is for.
The UK cost table in pounds
Here is the entry paid plan for each tool, as of late September 2026 unless dated otherwise, plus Ahrefs Lite (its first plan with a rank tracker), and Moz Pro Standard because Moz’s $49, about £37, entry tier states no keyword limit. Dollar figures are converted at the rate above and marked “about”: a guide, not a quoted price.

SE Ranking, Semrush and Ahrefs: the three sterling options
SE Ranking is the platform we run client rank tracking on and recommend first to most UK small businesses. As of late September 2026, Core costs £95 a month, or £76 billed annually (20% off), for 10 projects, 2,000 keywords tracked daily and 250,000 audit pages a month; Growth is £209 or £167.20 for 30 projects, 5,000 keywords and three seats. Add-ons are sterling too: Agency Pack £49 a month (annual only), AI Search £69 or £55.20 on annual, API £35 (annual only). The trial is 14 days with no card, and our full SE Ranking review covers the rest.
Semrush we keep short: our Semrush UK pricing post covers every plan and the VAT question. As of late September 2026, Semrush lists the SEO plan at £113 a month or £95.07 billed annually, rising to £444 or £369.23 for Advanced, with “up to 17%” off annual billing and limits unchanged from July 2026. Our SE Ranking versus Semrush head-to-head compares the two on features.
Our July 2026 notes already carried Ahrefs Starter at £23 and Lite at £99, and the pricing page served pounds again on our late September check, with Lite about £82 on annual billing, Standard £199 and Advanced £359. There is no free trial, and the Rank Tracker updates weekly by default per the Ahrefs help centre as of July 2026, with daily updates sold as an add-on. Our Semrush versus Ahrefs comparison sets the two side by side.
Moz, Ubersuggest, Mangools and SEO PowerSuite: billed in dollars
Moz Pro, checked on 26 September 2026, prices Standard at $99 (about £75) a month, or $79 (about £60) paid yearly, for three tracked sites and 300 tracked keywords. The entry-level plan is $49 (about £37) a month for a single website, with no annual price shown. Trial terms vary by tier; “Try it free” appears against Medium only.
Ubersuggest quotes a range of $29 (about £22) to $99 (about £75) as of 26 September 2026. The Individual plan at $29 (about £22) a month covered one project and 125 tracked keywords, and the one-time 7-day trial was on monthly billing, both as of July 2026. As of 26 September 2026, rank tracking and crawling run weekly on all three paid tiers.
Mangools’ Basic plan is listed by third-party roundups at $49 (about £37) a month, or about $29.90 (about £23) on annual billing, as of July 2026, with a 48-hour refund window and no site audit crawler. SEO PowerSuite is four desktop applications at $349 (about £264) a year for Professional as of July 2026, not re-verified since, sold as an auto-renewing annual subscription. Our Semrush alternatives comparison covers nine tools, including all four.
The UK keyword database question
Only one vendor here publishes a UK figure. SE Ranking states 766 million keywords in its UK database as of July 2026, out of 5.5 billion across 188 geographic databases. Semrush publishes totals only, 27.9 billion keywords across 142 geographic databases as of July 2026, with no UK breakdown on its pages as of 26 September 2026. We have no UK keyword count for Ahrefs, Moz or Mangools. Semrush frequently defaults to the US database, so set the country to United Kingdom first, and our Ubersuggest review found its UK volumes thinner and lumpier than the premium platforms report, as of August 2026: usable for direction, risky for forecasting.
The free UK-friendly stack
For a one-person business in its first year, four free tools are enough, all as of July 2026, and we say that as an agency that sells SEO. Google Search Console shows the real queries, clicks and impressions from Google’s own records and keeps 16 months of data. Google Analytics 4 measures actual sessions, though consent banner declines make its figure a floor rather than a census. Bing Webmaster Tools reports real impression figures rather than ranges, and its 2026 AI Performance report matters because Bing’s index feeds ChatGPT search and Microsoft Copilot. SE Ranking’s free tools add a backlink checker, an AI visibility checker capped at 5 checks a day, and a title and meta description checker. Our free SEO tools roundup lists every free tier’s exact limits.
Our picks by situation
Our verdicts, with prices as of late September 2026 unless dated otherwise:
- Sole trader with one website: the free stack above plus Ahrefs Starter at £23 a month for light keyword research and occasional audits, or Semrush’s $0 free plan for 10 lookups a day, moving to SE Ranking Core at £76 a month billed annually once you want 2,000 keywords checked daily.
- Local trade business: SE Ranking Core at £76 a month billed annually, which includes a Local and Map Rank Tracker with 1,500 keywords and a grid tracker down to street level as of July 2026, or Semrush Local Base at $30 (about £23) per location per month if listings are the whole job.
- Freelancer with a few clients: SE Ranking Core, whose 10 projects cover a small client list, adding the Agency Pack at £49 a month on annual billing once clients want branded reports. Our freelance SEO toolkit sets out three budget tiers in pounds.
- Small agency: SE Ranking Growth at £167.20 a month billed annually plus the Agency Pack at £49, £216.20 a month for 30 projects and three seats as of July 2026, or Semrush Pro+ at £201.09 billed annually for 15 websites if the team already lives in Semrush. Our guide to choosing SEO management software explains which platforms run the whole workflow.
We run the sterling stack for clients: Search Console as ground truth, SE Ranking for tracking, audits and reporting, and Semrush where competitive research needs its database.

What to check before you buy
Before you enter a card anywhere, run these five checks, all as of late September 2026 unless dated otherwise.
- The currency at the checkout. A sterling list price and a sterling charge on your statement are not the same thing. If the final step shows dollars, expect your bank’s rate and possibly a fee of up to about 3%.
- The VAT line. If you are VAT registered, look for the VAT number field. If not, assume the checkout figure may be higher than the list price until you see otherwise.
- The trial terms. SE Ranking gives 14 days with no card. Semrush gives seven days with a card, a temporary one-dollar authorisation, no exports and automatic conversion on day eight, as of July 2026. Ahrefs offers none.
- Cancellation and refunds. As of July 2026, SE Ranking plans can be cancelled at any time, with payments non-refundable except where the service was not delivered, and Semrush refunds only annual subscriptions of twelve months or longer, requested within seven calendar days of the charge. Monthly subscriptions are excluded.
- The annual lock-in. Annual billing is 20% off at SE Ranking and Moz and “up to 17%” at Semrush and Ahrefs. Start monthly and move to annual once the tool has earned its place.
