Best Rank Tracking Software for Agencies
Last updated: 7 July 2026
Changelog: 1 May 2026: first published, with prices checked against vendor pricing pages, vendor help documentation and, for Mangools and Wincher, current third-party listings.
Choosing the best rank tracking software is one of the few tool decisions an agency makes that clients notice every single month. Rankings feed the reports, the reports justify the retainer, and a tracker that updates weekly or fails on local results makes everyone look bad. We run a London SEO agency, and this guide ranks eight real tools by the criteria that matter to agency work.

How did we choose the best rank tracking software?
We judged every tool in this list of the best rank trackers on five criteria: ranking update frequency, local and mobile tracking, white label reporting, API access, and cost per tracked keyword. Every price below was checked in July 2026 against vendor pricing pages, vendor help documentation or, where marked, current third-party listings, in the currency each vendor displays. All eight run in a browser rather than as installed software, a trade-off we weigh up in web-based rank trackers versus desktop tools.
A quick word on why these five:
- Update frequency. Daily updates should be the baseline for client work. A definition worth keeping: update frequency is how often the software re-checks live search results for your keywords, and weekly checks can hide a whole penalty-and-recovery cycle between reports.
- Local and mobile tracking. Most agency clients are local businesses. If the tool cannot track a postcode-level Google result on mobile, it cannot report the truth.
- White label reports. Agencies send reports under their own brand. We cover this in depth in our guide to the best SEO reporting tools.
- API access. Once you pass a dozen clients, you want ranking data flowing into your own dashboards, not exported by hand.
- Per-keyword cost. The honest comparison metric. Headline plan prices hide huge differences in how many keywords you actually get.
What is the best rank tracking software for agencies?
SE Ranking is the best rank tracking software for most agencies in 2026, because it pairs daily top-100 tracking with a full SEO platform at roughly a third of the per-keyword price of dedicated enterprise trackers. The best rank tracker tool for you may still be one of the seven alternatives below: each wins in a specific situation, and we say which.
1. SE Ranking: best overall value for agencies
SE Ranking checks the top 100 results daily on Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, on desktop and mobile, with location targeting down to postcode level. As of July 2026 the Core plan costs £95 per month (£76 on annual billing) for 2,000 daily-tracked keywords across 10 projects; Growth is £209 per month (£167.20 annual) for 5,000 keywords and 30 projects. That works out around 4p per keyword per month on Core annual, which nothing else on this list matches at agency quality.
The reason it tops our list is what comes attached to the tracker: a site audit running 115+ checks, a backlink index the vendor puts at 2.7 trillion links across 420 million domains, and API access with 25,000 credits per month on Core and 100,000 on Growth. The Agency Pack add-on (£49 per month, annual billing only) adds 30 client seats, a fully white-labelled platform and unlimited scheduled reports. There is a 14-day free trial with no credit card. 2. AccuRanker: best dedicated rank tracker for large keyword sets
AccuRanker is a pure keyword rank tracking software product: it does nothing but rankings, and does them extremely well. As of July 2026, Professional starts at $224 (about £165) per month for 2,000 keywords with daily updates, and Expert starts at $764 (about £561) per month for 10,000 keywords with an unlimited read API. Annual billing takes roughly 10% off, and there is a 14-day free trial with no card required.
That is around 11 cents per keyword on the entry plan, so you are paying a premium for on-demand refreshes, Looker Studio integration, white label reporting and (on Enterprise) BigQuery access and raw SERP HTML. For agencies tracking 25,000+ keywords where rankings are the product, it earns its price. We compare it head to head in AccuRanker vs Ahrefs vs SE Ranking. Our AccuRanker review goes further into its pricing tiers, Excel exports and clickstream data.
3. Semrush Position Tracking: best if you already pay for Semrush
Semrush’s Position Tracking is a strong rank tracker bundled inside a very expensive suite. Semrush has restructured its plans: the old Pro, Guru and Business tiers have been replaced. As of July 2026, the entry SEO plan costs $139 (about £102) per month ($117.33, about £86, on annual billing) for 500 tracked keywords, Starter is $199 (about £146) for the same 500 keywords plus AI visibility tracking, Pro+ is $299 (about £220) ($248.17, about £182, annual) for 1,500, and Advanced is $549 (about £403) ($455.67, about £335, annual) for 5,000, all with daily updates and solid local and mobile options.
The keyword allowances are the catch. An agency tracking 200 keywords for each of ten clients needs 2,000 keywords, which pushes you past the 1,500-keyword Pro+ plan into Advanced at $549 (about £403) per month before reporting seats even enter the conversation. If you already run Semrush for research, use it: our walkthrough of Semrush Position Tracking covers the setup in fifteen minutes. If you are choosing a tracker from scratch, read our SE Ranking vs Semrush comparison and our wider list of Semrush alternatives first.
4. Nightwatch: best for tracking beyond Google
Nightwatch tracks rankings on Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Google Maps, plus AI platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. As of July 2026, Starter costs €79 per month for 500 keywords, Professional €159 for 2,500, and Agency €399 for 7,500, with daily automated updates, on-demand checks, unlimited user seats on every plan, and a 14-day full-feature trial with no card.
API access and white label reporting start on Professional, which makes the €159 tier the realistic agency entry point at roughly 6 cents per keyword. If clients keep asking where they show up in AI answers, this is one of the few trackers with a native answer; our guide to GEO rank tracking covers that whole emerging category.
5. ProRankTracker: best tracking-only depth on a mid budget
ProRankTracker is another tracking-only specialist, positioned well below AccuRanker on price. As of July 2026, Starter costs $99 (about £73) per month for 1,000 tracked terms ($89, about £65, on annual billing), Pro $149 (about £109) for 2,000 terms with Looker Studio integration and 10 user seats, and Agency from $199 (about £146) for 3,000 terms with API access and unlimited users. All plans update the top 100 daily, with local, mobile and Google Business Profile Maps tracking included, and there is a 7-day, 100-term free trial with no card.
One term equals one keyword plus URL plus engine, location and device combination, so multi-location tracking consumes terms quickly. Budget accordingly.
6. Mangools SERPWatcher: best budget option for freelancers
SERPWatcher is the rank tracker inside the Mangools toolkit, and it is the cheapest credible option here. As of July 2026, per current third-party listings (the vendor page loads prices dynamically), Basic costs $29.90 (about £22) per month on annual billing (around $49, about £36, monthly) with 200 tracked keywords updated daily, and Agency $89.90 (about £66) with 1,500; the mid Premium tier sits between the two with 700. There is a 48-hour money-back guarantee rather than a conventional long trial, confirmed on the vendor’s own pricing page.
The interface is genuinely pleasant and the whole keyword research suite comes bundled. The limits tell you who it is for: 200 keywords covers one or two small clients, not an agency book. No white label reporting either. For a freelancer or a first retainer, it is hard to argue with the price.
7. Ahrefs Rank Tracker: a bundled extra, not a primary tracker
Ahrefs remains a superb research and backlink platform, but its Rank Tracker updates tracked keywords weekly by default on all plans, per Ahrefs’ own help documentation as of July 2026. Plans run $129 (about £95) per month (Lite, 750 tracked keywords), $249 (about £183) (Standard, 2,000) and $449 (about £330) (Advanced, 5,000), with daily updates available at extra cost through the Project Boost add-on.
Weekly data is fine for trend lines and useless for “why did enquiries stop on Tuesday” conversations. Keep Ahrefs for what it is brilliant at and pair it with a daily tracker; that is exactly the pairing we unpack in AccuRanker vs Ahrefs vs SE Ranking.
8. Wincher: simplest tool for small sites
Wincher is a lightweight rank tracker with three plans built around 500, 1,000 and 5,000 keywords: Starter, Professional and Enterprise. The vendor’s plan pages, checked in July 2026, list weekly ranking updates on Starter and daily updates on the two higher tiers, with API access and white-labelled reports on the top Enterprise plan only. Current third-party listings put prices at €49, €89 and €319 per month.
It is clean and easy to hand to a junior, but weekly updates on the entry plan and top-tier-only white labelling make it a weaker agency pick than the tools above.
How do the best rank trackers compare on price?
The table below compares entry-level agency-usable plans for every tool in this list of the best rank checker software, with prices checked in July 2026 against vendor pages (or, for Mangools and Wincher, current third-party listings). Per-keyword figures are our own arithmetic from the monthly price and keyword allowance.
| Tool | Entry plan (monthly) | Tracked keywords | Approx. cost per keyword | Update frequency | White label reports | API | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SE Ranking | £95 (£76 annual) | 2,000 | ~4p (annual) | Daily, top 100 | Via Agency Pack (£49/mo) | Yes, 25,000 credits/mo | 14 days, no card |
| AccuRanker | $224 (about £165) | 2,000 | ~11¢ | Daily + on demand | Yes | Read API on Expert+ | 14 days, no card |
| Semrush | $139 (about £102) (SEO plan) | 500 | ~28¢ | Daily | Not on entry plan | Advanced plan only | Varies |
| Nightwatch | €79 (€159 for agency features) | 500 / 2,500 | ~6¢ (Professional) | Daily + on demand | Professional+ | Professional+ | 14 days, no card |
| ProRankTracker | $99 (about £73) | 1,000 terms | ~10¢ | Daily, top 100 | Yes | Agency plan | 7 days, 100 terms |
| Mangools | $29.90 (about £22) annual (~$49, about £36, monthly) | 200 | ~15¢ | Daily | No | Limited | 48h money-back |
| Ahrefs | $129 (about £95) (Lite) | 750 | ~17¢ | Weekly by default | No | Paid add-on | None |
| Wincher | from ~€49 | 500 | ~10¢ | Weekly on entry, daily above | Top plan only | Top plan only | Yes |
Two things jump out. First, the gap between roughly 4p and 28 cents per keyword is the difference between tracking 500 keywords per client and rationing 50. Second, only half the table offers white labelling at a price a small agency can justify.
Which rank tracker should you choose?
The right choice among the best keyword rank tracker software options depends on your client count, keyword volume and whether rankings are a feature of your service or the whole deliverable. Here are our honest verdicts by situation, based on how agencies like ours actually buy tools.
- Freelancer with one to three clients: Mangools SERPWatcher. The $29.90 (about £22) annual price is unbeatable, and you can migrate later without ceremony. If even that is more than the budget allows this month, our round-up of the free rank trackers worth using sets out how far each free tier stretches.
- Small agency, 5 to 20 clients: SE Ranking Core or Growth plus the Agency Pack. Daily tracking, white label reports, audits and backlink data in one bill, and the audit side pairs nicely with our one-hour technical SEO audit process.
- Large agency or in-house team tracking 25,000+ keywords: AccuRanker. The per-keyword premium buys speed, on-demand refreshes and data-warehouse plumbing.
- Agency whose clients ask about AI visibility: Nightwatch, or SE Ranking with its AI Search add-on (£69 per month, £55.20 annual as of July 2026).
- Team already committed to Semrush or Ahrefs: stay put for research, but check the keyword allowances against your real tracking needs before you rule out a dedicated tracker alongside.
Whatever you pick, the tracker is one layer of a larger setup; our agency SEO tech stack guide shows where it slots in, and our client SEO report template shows what the output should feed.
What do agencies ask about rank tracking software?
These are the questions agencies and freelancers ask most often when choosing rank tracking software, answered using the same July 2026 prices and limits quoted throughout this guide.
What is rank tracking software?
Rank tracking software is a tool that automatically checks where a website appears in search engine results for a defined list of keywords, then records those positions over time. Agencies use keyword rank tracking software to prove progress to clients, catch drops early, and connect ranking movement to traffic and enquiries.
How often should a rank tracker update?
Daily. Most of the best SEO rank tracking software (SE Ranking, AccuRanker, Nightwatch, ProRankTracker) updates every ranking daily as standard, so weekly tools put you a week behind a problem. For volatile situations, AccuRanker and Nightwatch also offer on-demand refreshes.
Is Ahrefs good for rank tracking?
Ahrefs is excellent for research and backlinks but weak as a primary tracker, because its Rank Tracker updates weekly by default on all plans as of July 2026, with daily updates sold separately through the Project Boost add-on. Many agencies pair Ahrefs with a daily tracker rather than replacing it.
What does rank tracking cost per keyword?
As of July 2026, credible tools range from roughly 4p per keyword per month (SE Ranking Core, annual billing) to around 28 cents (Semrush’s entry SEO plan), based on entry-plan prices divided by keyword allowances. Dedicated enterprise trackers sit around 10 to 11 cents.
Can rank tracking software monitor AI search results?
Increasingly, yes. Nightwatch tracks visibility in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity on all plans, and SE Ranking sells an AI Search add-on at £69 per month (£55.20 annual) as of July 2026. This is a fast-moving area; our GEO rank tracking guide covers it properly.
Is there a good free rank tracker?
Not for agency use. Free rank checkers exist for spot checks, but none offers daily scheduled tracking, local targeting and reporting at usable volume. The practical free option is a trial: SE Ranking, AccuRanker and Nightwatch all offer 14 days without a credit card as of July 2026.
What is the best rank tracking software online for local SEO?
For local clients, prioritise postcode-level targeting, mobile tracking and Google Maps or Google Business Profile coverage. SE Ranking, AccuRanker, Nightwatch and ProRankTracker all track local mobile results; ProRankTracker and Nightwatch add explicit Maps tracking on standard plans.
Ready to try our top pick?
SE Ranking took the top spot on price-to-feature grounds: daily top-100 tracking, white label reporting through the Agency Pack, and a full audit and backlink platform for less per keyword than any dedicated tracker here. The 14-day trial needs no credit card, so you can test it with real client keywords before deciding.
