Semrush AI Toolkit: What It Tracks and Who Needs It
The Semrush AI Toolkit (sold as the AI Visibility Toolkit) tracks how often ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode mention your brand, which sources they cite, and how your share of voice compares with competitors. As of July 2026 it costs $99 (about £73) per month standalone (billed annually) for one domain with 25 tracked prompts, or comes bundled in the Semrush One plans, which raise the allowance to 50, 100 or 200 daily prompts. It earns its keep once AI assistants are already sending you referral traffic or your buyers research through them. If you are still fighting for basic Google rankings, hold off. We cover both cases below.

What is the Semrush AI Toolkit?
The Semrush AI Toolkit is Semrush’s product for measuring brand visibility inside AI-generated answers, the same way rank trackers measure visibility in Google’s blue links. It is built around six reports: a Visibility Overview with an AI Visibility Score (a 0 to 100 benchmark), Competitor Research for spotting visibility gaps, Prompt Research with volume and difficulty data for the questions people actually ask assistants, Brand Performance covering share of voice, sentiment and the key narratives attached to your brand, daily Prompt Tracking for the prompts you care about most, and an AI Search Site Audit that flags technical issues blocking AI crawlers. As of July 2026 Prompt Tracking supports 220+ countries and territories, while the prompt database behind the research reports covers a smaller set of markets (32 countries at Semrush’s latest count, the UK included). In practice it answers three questions: do the assistants mention us, what do they say about us, and whose content are they citing instead of ours?
What does the Semrush AI Toolkit track?
As of July 2026 the toolkit tracks brand mentions across ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Each day it runs your tracked prompts against those platforms and records whether your brand appears, the position and context of the mention, the sentiment around it, and the source pages the answer cites. For UK service businesses, Semrush AI Overview tracking is usually the piece that matters most, because AI Overviews sit on top of the Google results your customers already use, while ChatGPT and Perplexity tracking matters more for software and B2B research journeys. If you need coverage of Grok or Claude, that sits in the enterprise tier, which we cover below. The point is trend data: one AI answer is anecdote, ninety days of tracked prompts is evidence you can act on.
How much does the Semrush AI Toolkit cost?
As of July 2026, Semrush sells the toolkit two ways: standalone at $99 (about £73) per month for one domain with 25 tracked prompts (shown with annual billing on Semrush’s pricing page), or bundled into the Semrush One plans, which combine the classic SEO toolkit with AI visibility tracking. The standalone tier also includes 300 AI visibility reports per day and Brand Performance for one domain. Extra prompts cost $60 (about £44) per month per block of 50. Semrush bills in US dollars.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Tracked prompts | Websites |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI Toolkit standalone | Not listed (annual only) | $99 (about £73) | 25 daily | 1 domain |
| Semrush One Starter | $199 (about £146) | $165.17 (about £121) | 50 daily | 5 |
| Semrush One Pro+ | $299 (about £220) | $248.17 (about £182) | 100 daily | 15 |
| Semrush One Advanced | $549 (about £403) | $455.67 (about £335) | 200 daily | 40 |
| Enterprise AIO | Custom (book a demo) | Custom | Custom | Custom |
Note that the entry $139 (about £102) per month SEO plan does not include prompt tracking. Our Semrush pricing breakdown covers every plan, seat cost and add-on, and our guide to the Semrush free trial explains what the 7-day trial does and does not include.
What is Semrush Enterprise AIO?
Semrush Enterprise AIO (AI Optimization) is the enterprise tier of the same idea, sold by demo with custom pricing rather than self-serve checkout. Semrush’s enterprise pages pitch brand visibility tracking across AI models on what it calls the market’s leading prompt database, plus market analysis with competitive benchmarking and content audits at scale, while the pricing page lists full LLM coverage including Grok and Claude alongside ROI attribution, none of which the standard toolkit offers as of July 2026. The practical distinction is simple. The standalone toolkit and Semrush One are self-serve with fixed prompt allowances. Enterprise AIO is for organisations that need custom prompt volumes, wider model coverage and procurement paperwork. If you are asking whether you need Semrush Enterprise AIO, you almost certainly do not: it exists for brands with in-house SEO teams and global markets. Everyone else gets what they need from the self-serve tiers.
How do you set up the Semrush AI Toolkit?
Setup follows a short, repeatable structure. Allow half an hour for the first pass, then let the daily tracking accumulate before you judge anything.
- Open the AI Toolkit from your Semrush dashboard and start a new project.
- Enter your domain and the brand name you want monitored.
- Choose your market. Prompt research data centres on a smaller set of core markets that includes the UK, so pick the UK rather than the US default.
- Review the prompts Semrush suggests from its Prompt Research data, and bin any that do not match real buying questions.
- Add your own high-value prompts up to your plan allowance (25, 50, 100 or 200).
- Add competitors so the AI Visibility Score has a benchmark. Competitor Research accepts up to four at once.
- Run the AI Search Site Audit, fix anything blocking AI crawlers, then review the Visibility Overview weekly rather than daily.
The prompt selection in steps 4 and 5 decides whether the data is useful, so spend your time there.
Who actually needs an AI SEO toolkit?
An AI SEO toolkit is a measurement layer, not a growth lever, so the honest question is whether you have anything worth measuring yet. Tick each line that applies. Three or more ticks and the $99 (about £73) per month will pay for itself; fewer, and your budget belongs in content and technical work first.
- Your analytics already show referral visits from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai or gemini.google.com
- Your customers tell you they “asked ChatGPT” before getting in touch
- AI Overviews appear on your money keywords in Google
- You sell in a considered-purchase category (legal, finance, B2B software, high-ticket trades)
- A competitor keeps getting named by assistants when you prompt them manually
- You already rank on page one for your core terms
If you ticked fewer than three, start with our guide to optimising for AI Overviews instead: it costs nothing and moves the same needle.
What are the pros and cons of the Semrush AI Toolkit?
We weigh any tracking spend on one test: does the data change decisions at a defensible price? Here is the honest ledger as of July 2026.
Pros
- Tracks five major AI surfaces (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode) in one dashboard
- Daily prompt tracking, not weekly snapshots
- Prompt Research shows estimated AI topic volume and difficulty, which many rival GEO tools lack
- Sentiment and narrative analysis, not just mention counting
- Sits inside Semrush, so no extra logins or exports if you already subscribe
Cons
- $99 (about £73) per month standalone covers only one domain and 25 prompts
- Extra prompts cost $60 (about £44) per 50, which adds up fast for agencies
- No Grok or Claude coverage outside the enterprise tier
- The entry $139 (about £102) SEO plan excludes it entirely, which surprises people at checkout
How does it compare with other GEO trackers?
The Semrush AI Toolkit is the convenient choice rather than the only choice, and we put it beside the alternatives in our comparison of AI visibility tools. Dedicated GEO platforms such as Profound and Peec go deeper on answer-engine analytics, and all-in-one suites such as SE Ranking now bundle AI visibility tracking into their standard plans at a lower price point: our GEO rank tracking comparison tests all of them side by side, and our SE Ranking review covers that suite in full. The short version: if you already pay for Semrush, adding the toolkit or moving to a Semrush One plan keeps everything in one place and one invoice. If you are choosing a suite from scratch on a tight budget, price the alternatives first. For how we evaluate every tool we recommend, see how we test.
Do we recommend it?
Yes, with a condition. For brands that ticked three or more boxes above, the Semrush AI Toolkit is the fastest way to turn “are we in ChatGPT?” from a guess into a weekly number, especially if Semrush is already your main suite. For everyone else the money does more in content. At Luckywebs (a London SEO and web agency, 4.7 stars from 60 Google reviews) we run AI visibility tracking alongside classic rank tracking for clients where the referral data justifies it, and we say so plainly when it does not. Semrush AI Toolkit FAQ
What AI platforms does the Semrush AI Toolkit track?
As of July 2026 it tracks ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Grok and Claude coverage is reserved for the Enterprise AIO tier.
How much does the Semrush AI Toolkit cost?
Standalone, $99 (about £73) per month for one domain and 25 tracked prompts, with extra prompts at $60 (about £44) per month per block of 50 (as of July 2026). Bundled, the Semrush One Starter, Pro+ and Advanced plans include 50, 100 and 200 daily prompts at $199 (about £146), $299 (about £220) and $549 (about £403) per month respectively.
Is the AI Toolkit included in a standard Semrush subscription?
No. The $139 (about £102) per month SEO plan does not include prompt tracking as of July 2026. You either buy the toolkit standalone at $99 (about £73) per month or take a Semrush One plan (Starter and above), which bundles the SEO toolkit and AI visibility tracking together.
What is the difference between the AI Toolkit and Semrush Enterprise AIO?
The AI Toolkit is self-serve with fixed prompt allowances and covers five AI platforms. Semrush Enterprise AIO is quote-based, adds full LLM coverage including Grok and Claude, and layers on market analysis, content optimisation guidance and traffic analysis that ties AI visibility to revenue. It is aimed at large in-house teams, not small businesses or typical agencies.
What does “Semrush AIO” mean?
AIO is Semrush’s shorthand for AI Optimization, the product family that includes the AI Visibility Toolkit and Enterprise AIO. Confusingly, SEOs also use AIO to mean AI Overviews, the AI answers at the top of Google results. Read the context: “Semrush AIO” almost always means the product, not the Google feature.
Can the toolkit tell me how to improve my AI visibility?
Partly. The Brand Performance report shows the narratives and sources shaping how assistants describe you, and the AI Search Site Audit flags technical blockers, but the fixing is still content work. Our guide to optimising for AI Overviews covers the practical side.
How many prompts should I track?
Fewer than you think. Start with your 15 to 20 highest-intent buying questions plus a handful of brand and comparison prompts. The 25-prompt standalone allowance is genuinely enough for most single-domain small businesses; agencies managing several clients will need a Semrush One plan or prompt add-ons.
